Caribbean Nostalgia

Posted: under Reviews.

I´ve recently moved to Riviera Maya, more exactly to some villas in akumal. It´s been a year now and I haven´t seen my family or friends, somehow this holiday season is making me vulnerable.

It seems my potentially politic family is having all the attention since airplane tickets to meet my family for Holidays were enormously expensive and completely out of reach.

We often meet my boyfriend´s family in our villas in Akumal, sometimes we invite them to stay over for the week of even the holidays but this time we are meeting them in Merida. Merida is a Yucatecan city 3 hour drive distance from my Akumal condo. We are spending this special party at Uncle Mau´s place and the night at Granpa´s hacienda. We are taking Mr. Cache our best companion; grumpy and old boxer with us, he´s never left behind!

And the great part is that I´ve just received a call from a good old friend, actually of one of my best friends; saying that she´s coming to tulum for a week with her boyfriend and her lovely Uma to salute Mr. Cache over some margaritas at the beach.

So on the 25th I´m leaving Merida for Tulum, a cute town 20 minute drive from Akumal. Probably we´ll be spending New Year´s Eve with them at our villas in Akumal, which sounds perfect for me and for them as well! My first guests in a year!!! I’ll be taking them snorkeling at Yalku, beer bucketing at la Buena vida, deep sea diving with uncle chalo’s dive shop and probably I’ll be taking them to the cenote route by bicycle; which is a 6 hour sunny and exhausting tour.

English Saddle for your Horse

Posted: under Reviews.

English Saddle is very best choice for Horse Riding. This a good, solid saddle for flatting my horse and it is great for equitation. It fit my horse very well, and he is a large barreled thoroughbred with high withers. Its very comfortable for me and my horse. The seat is extremely comfortable for me and I feel very good.

English saddles aren’t reserved to England. Their universal use is a reflection on their viability through the decades. English saddles are for English riding. They don’t have deep seats or high cantles and pommels. Their goal is to provide the horse with optimal fluidity of motion for a variety of functional tasks. They’re used exclusively in the Olympic games in the equestrian competitions too. English riding is relegated forward seat riding, dressage, show hunting, eventing, saddle seats, and English pleasure. Dressage, however, does not mean the horse’s apparel. It’s simply a contest to see how well the horse obeys commands in a quiet and calm manner. If the saddle is not hard-pressed or bound tightly, they will have more fluidity of motion and ability to disobey slightly. Taking away the restrictive saddle forces the animal to obey the owner’s other techniques and commands instead of brute force. The horse’s manners are showcased in English pleasure, and eventing is just a combination of dressage, cross-country jumping, and show jumping. Without English saddles, there would be no English riding.

An English saddle is different from an Australian stock, Asian and Western saddle. The unique purpose of the English saddle is to provide quick movement over harsh terrain and other difficult-to-pass places. They’re also used in competition because the horse has freer movement and capacities. The all-purpose saddle finds most of its roots in the English saddle. These eventing saddles are used for flat riding and jumping. A skilled rider should try his hand at an English saddle because there are more options. Your standard Western saddle just doesn’t add up to the benefits.

English saddles can be made with leather or synthetic components and may be built around a wooden or fiberglass tree. A new trend in English saddles is a ‘treeless’ design which many feel is more flexible and comfortable for horse and rider.

Equestrian saddles are designed for particular tasks and it is a form of evolution that has determined how todays saddles look. English saddles are generally fairly plain in design with a flatter seat and no pommel which is the raised horn at the front of a western saddle. The work of western cowboys vary markedly from the english hunter!

Fox hunting and the need for a light saddle which allowed for a great deal of flexibility was probably the major infuence on english saddle design. English saddles are used in all olympic equestrian events. Varieties of englsh saddles include dressage, jumping and racing saddles.

The first step in saddle manufacture is treating the leather. This involves soaking the hide in a lime solution to loosen the outer layer of skin and the hair, and then removing the hair.

Is the saddle resting flat on your horse’s back? The panel (the underside) and the seat should be level with the ground. In addition the pommel should never be higher than the cantle, whereas the cantle in most cases will be noticeably higher than the pommel. The cantle height will vary depending on the type of English saddle you are using. In addition the saddle length should not reach back onto the horse’s loins.

The importance of selecting an English saddle that is properly fitted to you and your horse cannot be underestimated. An improper fit can cause your otherwise perfect show horse to exhibit poor extension, buck or resist your cues due to the discomfort and confiscation to his movement the saddle causes.
